Overview
Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is offering Community Winter Support Grants for 2026/2027, promoted through Action Together. The money comes from central government through two streams: the Better Care Fund and the Crisis and Resilience Fund. The Better Care Fund strand backs activities that help people in Tameside eat well, stay warm and healthy, and avoid hospital admission or other crises. This can include food-related support and help to keep warm. It aims to reach older people, people living in poverty, people who are homeless, carers, disabled people and anyone at risk of isolation or real difficulty with daily living over winter. The Crisis and Resilience Fund backs projects on financial resilience, or on sustainable food support such as community groceries, food pantries and food clubs. Examples include money management and budgeting help, benefits support, credit union partnerships, training for frontline staff and volunteers, cooking on a budget, digital skills and peer support schemes. There are three levels of grant. Small grants go up to £1,500. Larger grants go up to £5,000. Financial Resilience grants go up to £10,000. Applications opened on 23 October 2026 and stay open until the funds are spent. There is no fixed closing date, so do not leave it too late. Charities and community groups, along with social enterprises and community interest companies, can apply. Your project must benefit Tameside residents. One practical point: if you want to run more than one project, it is usually best to apply for each one separately. You can email the grants team to check.
