Overview
EPSRC Clean Energy ICURe Discover is an 8-week, part-time online programme that helps researchers and technicians explore the market for their clean energy ideas. It is delivered by Innovate UK ICURe with the EPSRC Clean Energy theme, and the SETsquared Partnership is the delivery partner. You get up to £2,500 of support for market discovery activities, such as testing your assumptions with potential customers. The programme also includes a pre-course briefing, 8 half-day workshops, guest speakers from past ICURe journeys, an introduction to the Strategyzer Business Model Canvas, and feedback from trainers, mentors and peers. It uses the lean start-up method, which applies the scientific method to business ideas. It suits researchers and technicians at UK universities and approved public sector research establishments working in clean energy. Topics include carbon capture, usage and storage, greenhouse gas removal, heat pumps, hydrogen, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion and wind. Innovations from any discipline within these areas are welcome. If you are unsure whether your work fits, you can contact the ICURe team. Applications open on 9 November 2026 and close at 11:59pm on 14 December 2026. The programme starts on 25 January 2027 and runs online. One practical point: places on each cohort are limited. Requirements to check
The programme is open to all UK universities and approved public sector research establishments (PSREs) working specifically in clean energy. Areas include, but are not limited to, carbon capture, usage and storage, greenhouse gas removal, heat pumps, hydrogen, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion and wind. Any discipline or background is welcome within these areas. The funder particularly welcomes applicants from universities new to ICURe, universities without HEIF funding, and under-represented groups.
