Overview

The Full ADOPT Grant funds farmer-led, on-farm trials and demonstrations of new ideas or solutions. Defra is investing up to £5 million in Round 10 through its Farming Innovation Programme, delivered with Innovate UK. It opened on 8 October 2026 and closes at 11am on 2 December 2026. Projects must test something that tackles a real challenge or opportunity on the farm or just after the farm gate, and must have the potential to improve productivity, resilience, sustainability or progress towards net zero. A key part is sharing: your proposal must show how other farmers, growers or foresters in England could benefit. Your project's total eligible costs must be between £50,000 and £200,000. It must last 6 to 24 months, start by 1 April 2027 and end by 31 March 2029. Funding is a grant, and the competition is competitive with a fixed budget. The lead must be an active commercial farming, growing or forestry business in England, and must collaborate with at least one other farming, growing or forestry business in the UK. Working with other organisations, such as universities or businesses, is encouraged. Universities cannot lead, and charities and CICs cannot lead. Co-operative members should apply individually. If you have not used Innovate UK's system before, the ADOPT Facilitator Support Grant (closes 11 November 2026) pays £2,500 towards an expert to help you apply, and a Support Hub is available for questions. Do not start the project until Innovate UK has approved your grant offer letter. Who it suits: groups of farmers or growers with a practical trial idea and partners lined up.
