Leeds City Council's community committees award small grants of up to £1,000 per ward and large grants of over £1,000 per ward to local projects that meet committee priorities and benefit the local area. There are 8 community committees covering the city's 33 wards. Each committee is made up of local councillors. At the start of each year, every committee receives a wellbeing fund and a youth activities fund. The committees award these budgets as grants to community projects and youth activities. In 2024/25 they spent over £1.2 million across 350 separate grants to grass roots organisations, voluntary groups and charities. There are 2 types of funding. The Wellbeing Fund supports the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the committee area. The Youth Activity Fund pays for activities for children and young people aged 8 to 17 in the committee area. The grants suit voluntary, community and faith organisations, charities, commercial organisations that operate on a non-profit basis, and council services. Local priorities can include environmental improvements, community safety, health and wellbeing, employment and issues that affect young people. Elected members make funding decisions at public meetings, held 4 times a year. Money goes to projects that address the priorities in each committee's forward plan, so it helps to know your committee's priorities before you apply.
