Overview
This fund helps Black-led organisations strengthen their role in the UK research world. It aims to help you grow sustainably, build stronger governance and leadership, improve operational readiness and financial resilience, and create long-term impact. Grants are multi-year and range from £13,000 to £48,000. The amount depends on your annual income. Unincorporated initiatives, sole traders, constituted groups and registered initiatives earning under £10,000 a year can receive £13,000 over two years. Registered initiatives earning between £10,000 and £30,000 can receive £21,000 over three years. Registered initiatives earning between £30,000 and £150,000 can receive £48,000 over three years. It suits registered charities, community interest companies, social enterprises, limited companies and groups with appropriate governance. You need a track record of supporting Black or Mixed Black heritage researchers, students or communities involved in research careers. Your annual income must be up to £150,000. The closing date is 27 November 2026. The process has several stages, so allow time. You start with an online Expression of Interest form. Shortlisted groups then complete a due diligence form and a health check review before being invited to submit a full application. One practical point before you start: more than half of your leadership must be Black or Mixed Black heritage. At least 75% of your directors, trustees or equivalent governing body members must also have lived experience of the social issues faced by your service users.
