Shackleton Award Cumbria 2026

The Shackleton Foundation (with the Francis C Scott Charitable Trust)

Up to £15,000North West England

The Shackleton Award Cumbria 2026 offers an unrestricted grant of up to £15,000 to an early-stage social entrepreneur with a bold new idea to improve the lives of children and young people in Cumbria. It is the first time the Shackleton Foundation has run a Cumbria-only round, made possible through support from the Francis Scott Trust. The Foundation focuses on what it calls the "first mile". This is the earliest and often hardest stage of launching a social venture, when an idea is still developing and traditional funding can be difficult to secure. Because the grant is unrestricted, you can use it where your venture needs it most. Alongside the money, the successful applicant joins the Shackleton Leader Network and gets a dedicated Leader Partner. This is an experienced Shackleton Leader who provides one-to-one mentoring. The award suits founders of new charities, CICs and CIOs set up within the last 12 months. Your venture must work only for children and young people aged 0-25 in Cumbria who face barriers to reaching their full potential. It should tackle a clearly identified need and have the potential to grow and become financially sustainable. Applications open on 4 August 2026 and close on 2 November 2026. Since 2008, the Foundation has backed more than 70 Shackleton Leaders across the UK. Bear in mind that this round will fund just one person. The Foundation is looking for one exceptional individual, so make sure your application shows clearly the need you are tackling and how your idea could grow. Manchester Connecting Communities Fund (EURO 2028)

City in the Community (Wembley Stadium Foundation)

Up to £5,000North West England

The Manchester Connecting Communities Fund offers small grants of up to £5,000 for projects that help young people in Manchester get active, be creative and express themselves. It runs in the build-up to UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland, when the Etihad Stadium will host five games, including England's opening match. City in the Community, Manchester City's official charity, delivers the fund. It is part of Wembley Stadium Foundation's Communities Fund, which supports young people and organisations across England's EURO 2028 host cities. Curious Minds, a national arts and cultural education charity based in Wigan, is also a partner in delivering the programme. The fund suits local charities and grassroots organisations that run participatory activities for young people in sport, movement and performing arts. Your project should help reduce barriers to taking part, so children and young people can access high-quality, inclusive and engaging opportunities in their own communities. The funder wants projects that help young people build confidence and skills, and feel a sense of ownership, pride and connection to their city. Applications opened on 5 October 2026 and close on 2 November 2026. That is a short window, so plan your time carefully if you want to apply. One practical point: these are small grants with a cap of £5,000, so your project needs to fit within that limit. The funder says it wants to invest in local projects and the organisations that know their communities best. Official source: https://www.mancity.com/news/club/citc-grant-programme-63926805. Increasing opportunities for children and young people (CYP) to engage in sport, movement and performing arts in Newcastle

Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland

Up to £10,000North East England

This fund aims to increase opportunities for children and young people to take part in sport, movement and performing arts in Newcastle. It is listed on the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland site as the Wembley Stadium Foundation Communities Fund. It is an organisation grant, so it suits groups working in Newcastle that want to open up more sport, movement or performing arts activity for children and young people. You can apply for up to £10,000. The fund is open for applications now and closes on 2 November 2026. Note that some other funds on the same page close earlier, on 19 October 2026, so make sure you are looking at the right closing date for this one. If you have not applied to the Community Foundation before, you will need an account on its grantee portal first. It is worth registering early so that nothing slows you down close to the closing date. The funder also has a page for new applicants where you can check that you and your activity meet its eligibility criteria, plus FAQs and a Help and Support page if you need extra help to apply. The listing on the page is brief, so read the full fund details through the "Read more" link before you start your application. If this fund is not the right fit, the Community Foundation says organisations in Tyne and Wear or Northumberland can make a general application at any time of year.
