BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme
BBC Children in Need
The BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme helps children and young people who are facing exceptionally difficult circumstances. It is administered by Family Fund Business Services. It provides items for the most basic needs of vulnerable children and young people. These may be children living in severe poverty, or those affected by issues such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, estrangement, disability or serious illness, mental health or behavioural difficulties, abuse or neglect. Where possible, items are provided directly rather than as a cash grant, so you should not expect a cash award. The fund suits children under 18 who are in a crisis or emergency, whose family have little or no access to support and not enough resources to meet their needs. Families in poverty or destitution, or receiving means-tested benefits, can be supported. Vulnerable low-income families affected by the recent severe floods are also included. Families cannot apply directly. Applications must come through an organisation that is supporting the family or young person, can assess their needs and can administer the grant. That could be a registered referrer, a support worker acting for the family, or a professional such as a teacher, GP, nurse, charity representative or housing or tenancy support worker. The listing shows the fund as live and gives no closing date. No funding amount is stated. One thing to plan for: because demand is high, only one application per household is accepted in a 12-month period. That application can cover the needs of all the children in the household. The programme runs across the UK. Monthly application limits for referrers vary by region under a tier system, so check the current tier guidance before registering.
