The Newcastle-under-Lyme Community Fund helps residents and organisations in the borough deliver one-off projects, events and activities. These should complement the council's objectives and improve the well-being of local neighbourhoods. From 2026-27, each of the 44 borough councillors will have a dedicated budget of £2,500 a year to use in their own ward. The aim is to let councillors respond quickly to the priorities of their local communities. The council gives examples of what the fund could support, and says the list is not exhaustive. These include Christmas trees, lights and decorations; new toys or equipment for playgroups and nurseries; outings for older people; renovating local landmarks; and contributions towards county council initiatives such as installing grit bins. The council says the fund will help support volunteers, community groups, schools, clubs and residents who bring people together in their area. If you are planning a small local project, event or activity, this could be a good fit. The fund comes from existing council budgets rather than new money. Most of it comes from the environmental sustainability element of the Civic Growth Fund. The rest comes from the discontinued Civic Pride Investment Fund. One practical caveat: the council is still developing a protocol so the fund runs in an open, transparent and accountable way.
