Small Infrastructure (Wales)

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

£3,000 - £15,000Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

Small Infrastructure is a Welsh Government capital grant that helps farmers improve existing farm infrastructure by stopping clean rainwater from getting into slurry and manure management systems. The Welsh Government says this improves technical performance, resource efficiency and environmental outcomes while supporting sustainable food production. Spending approved under the earlier Small Grants: Yard Coverings scheme does not count towards the cap. The grant is paid at a standard cost of £40 per square metre of roof installed. The minimum grant is £3,000 per application and the maximum is £15,000 per applicant in each financial year (1 April to 31 March). You can apply more than once, but can only have two accepted grant award letters live at a time. The guidance says the area to be covered should have an existing concrete floor. It gives an indicative budget of £1 million for the 2027/28 financial year and does not state a figure for the current year. There are no set windows. The application form opened on 17 September 2026 and, according to the guidance, will stay open until March 2028, with selections run throughout the year. Grant awards must be accepted within 21 days. To be eligible you must be registered with the Welsh Government with a Customer Reference Number, and have at least three hectares of eligible agricultural land in Wales registered with RPW or over 550 standard labour hours. The guidance quoted here is for farmers who have not claimed the Sustainable Farming Scheme Universal Layer. Who it suits: Welsh livestock farms wanting to roof yards and cut the volume of dirty water to store and spread. Note that the full guidance is a PDF, so we recheck it by hand rather than automatically. Official source: https://www.gov.wales/small-infrastructure-general-guidance. Capital Production and Efficiency (Wales)

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

£500 - £15,000Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

Capital Production and Efficiency is a Welsh Government grant towards equipment and machinery that improves efficiency, animal health and welfare, resource use, and health and safety on your farm. Spending approved under the earlier Small Grants: Efficiency scheme does not count towards the cap. The grant pays up to 40% of eligible costs, excluding VAT. The minimum grant is £500 per application and the maximum is £15,000 per Customer Reference Number in each financial year. You can apply more than once a year as long as your total stays within £15,000, but you can only have two accepted grant award letters live at the same time. Only items listed in the technical guidance can be funded, and they must meet the minimum specification set out there. You must be registered with the Welsh Government with a Customer Reference Number, and have at least three hectares of eligible agricultural land in Wales registered with RPW, or show you undertake over 550 standard labour hours on agricultural or ancillary activities. The guidance quoted here is for farmers who have not claimed the Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) Universal Layer. Second-hand equipment, consumables, items for contracting, and anything bought on hire purchase, lease or part exchange cannot be funded. The item must not go ahead without the grant. Applications are made on Rural Payments Wales (RPW) Online and can be made throughout the year while the scheme is open. Applications are scored and selected regularly. Who it suits: Welsh farmers planning to buy specific kit, such as monitoring or precision equipment, who can fund 60% themselves. Small Grants: Woodland Creation (Wales), window 11

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

Funding amount not listedAgriculture, Forestry & Fishing

Small Grants: Woodland Creation pays farmers and other landowners in Wales to plant small areas of trees, between 0.1 and 2 hectares. Window 11 opened on 20 July 2026 and closes on 23 October 2026. The scheme suits planting such as shelter woods alongside watercourses, trees in field corners or small fields, stock shelter, biodiversity planting and wood fuel. Trees must go on land that is agriculturally improved or of low environmental value, and the Welsh Government publishes a map showing which land is eligible. It pays for planting the trees and for installing fencing and gates, followed by 12 years of maintenance and premium payments to make up for lost agricultural income. Payment per hectare depends on the type of woodland and how many trees you plant per hectare. The current rates are set out in the window 10 and 11 guidance on the Welsh Government website. Unlike the larger Woodland Creation Grant, you do not need a separate plan from a registered planner, because RPW's online system creates a woodland creation plan that meets the UK Forestry Standard as part of your application. To be eligible you must be registered with the Welsh Government and have a Customer Reference Number, your fields must be in Wales and registered on the Land Parcel Identification System, and your neighbours must be happy with the planting. The rules booklet says those applying in 2026 must complete planting and claim for all capital works by 31 March 2027. Who it suits: Welsh farmers wanting to plant up to 2 hectares quickly. Act fast, as the window closes on 23 October. Official source: https://www.gov.wales/small-grants-woodland-creation-20-july-2026-23-october-2026. Last checked by GrantMatch on 14 October 2026.

Woodland Creation Grant (Wales), window 6

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

Funding amount not listedAgriculture, Forestry & Fishing

The Woodland Creation Grant (WCG) is the Welsh Government's grant for planting new woodland on farms and other land in Wales. It pays for tree planting, livestock and deer fencing, and gates for public access, and then provides 12 years of maintenance and premium payments to help the trees establish. You can only apply if you already have a woodland creation plan approved by the Welsh Government, which you get through the separate Woodland Creation Planning scheme. For this window, the Welsh Government needs confirmation of a verified plan from Natural Resources Wales by 6 November 2026 for you to apply by the closing date. Window 6 opened on 4 March 2026 and closes on 20 November 2026. Rural Payments Wales runs a selection of applications each month. All selected planting and capital works must be completed and claimed by 31 March 2028. The minimum application is 0.25 hectares of approved planting, or 0.5 hectares if you are only planting under an agroforestry option. There is no maximum area. Funding covers seven woodland categories, and any of the WCG tree species mixes can be used if the plan meets the UK Forestry Standard. This window adds water troughs, water gates and water pipes, so you can plant riverside or pondside strips and fence out stock while keeping livestock access to water. Who it suits: Welsh farmers and landowners who already have, or are close to getting, an approved woodland creation plan. Note: the separate Sustainable Farming Scheme is applied for through the annual Single Application Form, and the 2026 window has closed. Agricultural Diversification and Horticulture Scheme (Wales)

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

£3,000 - £100,000Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

The Agricultural Diversification and Horticulture Scheme is a Welsh Government capital grant for farmers, existing horticulture producers and new commercial horticulture businesses in Wales. Window 3 opened on 21 September 2026 and closes on 27 November 2026, with an indicative budget of £1.5 million. It supports four kinds of project: new or developing livestock enterprises that are not traditional in Wales (for example sheep or goat milking), growing novel or alternative crops such as plants for fibre, energy or medicine, adding value to farm products or by-products through on-farm processing, and developing or starting a commercial horticulture enterprise. Traditional beef, sheep, dairy (cow), pig, poultry and arable investments are not eligible, nor are tourism projects, woodland planting, vehicles, livestock or land. Grants are between £3,000 and £100,000, covering up to 40% of eligible costs excluding VAT. The scheme is discretionary and offers the minimum needed for the investment to go ahead. All capital works must be completed and claimed by 31 March 2028. You must be registered with the Welsh Government with a Customer Reference Number, be a primary producer, and have at least 3 hectares of eligible agricultural land registered with RPW in Wales or over 550 standard labour hours. People starting a commercial horticulture business who could not do it without the grant can also apply. Groups of farmers can apply under a group Customer Reference Number. Who it suits: Welsh farms starting a new non-traditional enterprise, adding value on farm, or growers investing in horticulture. Woodland Creation Planning Scheme (Wales)

Welsh Government (Rural Payments Wales)

£1,000 - £5,000Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing

The Woodland Creation Planning Scheme helps farmers and landowners in Wales pay for the plan they need before they can get money to plant trees. It funds a Registered Woodland Planner to write a woodland creation plan for an area of at least 0.25 hectares. The plan is checked by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to make sure it meets the UK Forestry Standard, and is then valid for 5 years. Once verified, you can use it to apply to the Woodland Creation Grant, which pays for the planting itself. If your planting is under 2 hectares, the Welsh Government says you may be able to use the Small Grants: Woodland Creation scheme instead, which does not need a separate plan. Grants are between £1,000 and £5,000. They cover professional advice from a Registered Woodland Planner and the development of the plan. The scheme also covers 80% of the cost of specialist habitat or species surveys, such as bats, breeding birds, vegetation and peat. Farmers, other landowners and land managers can apply. You, or your registered woodland planner, submit an expression of interest on Rural Payments Wales (RPW) Online. The overview page says the scheme is open throughout the year, and the Welsh Government's application dates page lists the current window as 5 January to 31 December 2026. NRW offers a free pre-application conversation through its Woodland Plan Verification Team, to check your site is right for trees before you apply. Farming Connect and the NRW Woodland Creation Hub also give technical advice. Who it suits: Welsh farmers thinking about planting 0.25 hectares or more who want to reach the Woodland Creation Grant.
