Historic England offers funding for local and regional projects that help people understand and protect historic buildings and sites. You can get between £1,000 and £100,000 for activities that build skills in managing historic places. The money supports projects where other funding is not available. This includes training, education, and conservation work in your local area. The focus is on building long-term capacity to look after England's historic environment. Applications close on 1 April 2026.
Key requirements:
- Must be local or regional in coverage
- Must promote understanding, management and conservation of historic environment
- Priority given to projects lacking alternative funding sources
Regions
Regional Capacity Building now comes under Historic England's grants for People activities We offer funding under this programme for activities and projects which are local or regional in coverage and which promote the understanding, management and conservation of the historic environment. Our support for building and maintaining sector capacity is focused on the sustainable management and development of the historic environment. We aim to ensure that those eligible activities and projects for which there is a lack of alternative sources of funding are our highest priorities for support.
