Overview

NERC moratorium awards fund UK scientists who have been selected for science teams on International Ocean Drilling Programme (IODP3) drilling or coring expeditions, or on scientific projects using ocean drilling archives (SPARC). They pay for research linked to the expedition. Limits depend on role and expedition type. For IODP3 drilling or coring expeditions the full economic cost can be up to £62,500 for co-chief scientists, £50,000 for early career researchers and £25,000 for senior or PhD scientists. SPARC limits are lower, for example up to £25,000 for co-chief scientists and £12,500 for senior or PhD scientists. Awards last 24 months and must start before the expedition departs. You can only apply if you have been invited, following selection to a science team. The opportunity has no closing date.
