Violet Laidlaw Trust Fund

Overview

Grants to groups and individuals to support people in the district of Carlisle who have been made homeless as a result of alcohol and drug addiction, domestic violence, family breakdown or mental ill health. Donor A bequest from the estate of Violet Laidlaw, formerly of Scotby and Carlisle.  Violet studied home economics and the nursing of sick children.  Her philosophy was to be considerate to others, always finding the good points in people and never passing judgement.  From a young age she showed a concern for the welfare of the homeless and less fortunate, giving support whenever needed. Who can apply? • individuals who are supported by an independent case worker or health professional • charitable, not-for-profit organisations Examples of projects the Fund has supported: • household items for a homeless person to move into their new home • renovation of buildings to create a supported accommodation service • tents for rough sleepers • handy person’s scheme How much can you apply for? Grants will normally be up to £2,000 over one year. Household income will be considered in the assessment of an individual’s application. Individuals will normally qualify for only one grant from the Fund.
