Historic England offers funding from £250 to £300,000 for heritage protection research and skills building. The scheme supports strategic research into England's historic environment. It also funds projects that build skills and capacity in heritage work. You can apply for people-focused activities or research activities. The deadline is 1 April 2026. This programme was recently relaunched as 'People and Research' in November 2025. You need to check the Historic England website for full eligibility details.

The Heritage Protection Commissions and Capacity Building Scheme was re-launched on the 4th November 2025 as People and Research. It will continue to provide funding for strategic research and to build skills and capacity in our historic environment.
