- Apply for a single piece of capital equipment or a single technology platform. Multiple components forming a platform need MRC permission before applying. Routine laboratory equipment, buildings, generic computing infrastructure, software development and other project costs are excluded.
- Obtain supplier quotes and explain fewer than three quotes or a sole supplier. One-off installation and qualifying maintenance included in the manufacturer offer may be supported; separately negotiated service contracts are excluded. Complete procurement and spending by 31 December 2027.
- Check the current resubmission rules, including the restriction on uninvited resubmissions of applications submitted after 1 August 2026. Previous-round resubmissions count towards the organisation limit.
Researchers and research technical professionals employed by an eligible UK research organisation. Each organisation may submit two applications unless MRC has notified its research office otherwise, and each person may lead only one. Eligible MRC units in The Gambia and Uganda are exceptions to the overseas lead restriction. International co-leads may participate under MRC rules.
