Belfast based sports clubs affiliated to a governing body recognised by Sport NI, with a current three year club development plan and open to all sections of the community. National governing bodies cannot apply. Applicants must be formally constituted and not for profit, with a chair, treasurer and secretary who are separate people, recent bank statements, signed annual accounts and the required policies.

Belfast City Council's Support for Sport Large Development Grants are for Belfast based sports clubs that want to develop through a new project, either by growing an existing club or by encouraging new people to take up sport. Awards are up to £5,000 and each organisation can submit one application. Clubs need a current club development plan covering at least three years, with at least one year left and including the project, plus a national governing body development plan, and must be open to all sections of the community. Applications close at 12 noon on 8 January 2027.
