County councillor grants

Each Lancashire County Council councillor has £2,000 a year to give through the Local Member Grants Scheme to voluntary, community and faith groups in their area. Your group needs a constitution or set of rules and a group bank or building society account, and your county councillor decides whether to award the grant, so talk to them first.

Police and Crime Commissioner

Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner funds community organisations for short projects on crime prevention, youth diversion and violence against women and girls, with a cap of £5,000 per organisation unless the bid is sponsored. Applications close on the last working day of each month and decisions follow by the end of the next month.

They can also help you find other funding and check a draft application.

English Lakes Hotels Trust Fund

Cumbria Community Foundation

Up to £1,000North West England

The English Lakes Hotels Trust Fund is run by Cumbria Community Foundation, with money given by the donor, English Lakes Hotels. It supports two groups: employees of English Lakes Hotels who are nominated by the company, and charitable or not-for-profit organisations delivering community projects in Windermere, Ambleside, Morecambe and Lancaster. These are the areas where the hotels are based. Grants will normally be up to £1,000 over one year. That makes the fund a good fit for small, focused pieces of work rather than large projects. Priority goes to projects that address hardship, help families in crisis, promote education (especially internships and apprenticeships), or support the Christian church and community projects. Examples the funder gives of past support include funeral costs for a family experiencing hardship and premises hire for a hub for homeless young people. All applications are made through the foundation's online application portal. The foundation has a step-by-step portal help guide to walk you through it. If you have questions about the fund, you can contact Siona Hartley at the foundation on 01900 820824 or by email at siona@cumbriafoundation.org. One thing to keep in mind: awards are described as "normally" up to £1,000, and priority is given to the themes above. Make sure your project connects clearly to one of them, and to one of the four towns, before you apply. Official source: https://www.cumbriafoundation.org/fund/english-lakes-hotels-trust-fund/. Local Member Grants Scheme

Lancashire County Council

£100 - £2,000North West England

The Local Member Grants Scheme lets Lancashire County Council's county councillors support voluntary, community and faith groups in their area. You apply for a grant, and your local county councillor decides whether to award it from their own budget. Each councillor has £2,000 to give out in each financial year. Grants pay for specific projects that directly benefit the community. Examples include new equipment such as tablets or gardening tools, materials such as books or display boards, accessibility improvements such as wheelchair ramps, and group activities such as outings and fitness sessions. Projects must fit the council's priorities, particularly 'better lives for all' and 'stronger communities'. You can ask for between £100 and £2,000. You can apply to more than one councillor, as long as the project benefits people in each division. However, the most a group can request in a financial year is £2,000 in total. The page gives no closing date. One practical point to plan around: the scheme cannot fund running costs, such as staffing, salaries or office rent, and it cannot award grants retrospectively. It is not an emergency fund either, so apply at least one month before your project starts. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee a grant, because the decision rests with your councillor. If you are successful, allow three to four weeks after the decision email for payment to reach your group's bank account. Social Investment Gateway Programme

School for Social Entrepreneurs

Up to £24,000National (UK-wide)

The Social Investment Gateway Programme is a free 12-month support programme run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE). It helps charities, social enterprises and community organisations strengthen their trading and move closer to being ready for social investment within the next three years. The programme will support 75 leaders across four cohorts. Cohort 2 runs from 1 March 2027 to 1 February 2028, and applications are now open. Face-to-face sessions take place in London and Manchester at the start, middle and end of the programme. You can choose between two types of grant. A Match Trading Grant of up to £18,000 is designed to challenge your trading, and you can only draw it down as your trading grows. It is paid over 12 months in five instalments. A repayable grant of up to £24,000 is also available, with an average of around £22,000. SSE is piloting repayable grants, and 10 are on offer across both rounds. SSE will share the risk with you and wants to learn with you how repayable grants might help organisations get into social investment. The programme suits organisations that have a trading model and plans to grow over the next year. You might want support with market development, pricing and sales, financial strategy, systems, governance, demonstrating impact or managing risk. The deadline is noon on Friday 6 November 2026. One practical point: you should usually have an annual income above £100,000, counting all income and not just trading income. Groups below that level with a strong trading model are encouraged to contact SSE. Official source: https://www.actiontogether.org.uk/social-investment-gateway-programme.
