Barchester Charitable Foundation - Group Grants

Barchester Charitable Foundation

£100 - £2,600England, Scotland, Wales

Barchester Charitable Foundation Group Grants help small community groups and small local charities that support older people and adults with a disability or mental health condition. The focus is on connecting, or re-connecting, people with others in their local community. The grants can pay for activity projects, equipment or materials that members use, transport costs so members can attend, and day trips, outings or UK group holidays. Awards range from £100 up to £2,600. You can apply if your group is based in England, Scotland, Wales or Jersey. The foundation opens to group applications in January, April, July and October. The October round is open now. It takes up to 10 weeks to process an application, so plan your project dates with that in mind. The foundation will look closely at your accounts, especially your balance sheet. As a guideline, it is very unlikely to help if your financial reserves are over £200,000. There are clear exclusions. The foundation will not fund core or running costs such as salaries and venue hire, indirect services such as websites or newsletters, building projects, or staff and volunteer training. It will not pay for anything already bought or already held. If you have won a grant, you cannot apply again within three years. The foundation may also cap grants to a single charity, including all its branches, in any one year. Official source: https://bhcfoundation.org.uk/apply/who-we-fund. Charity registration in Wales

Wales shares the Charity Commission with England. A charity must register if its annual income is over £5,000 or if it is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). Many community grants are also open to smaller groups that are not registered, as long as they have a written constitution and a bank account.

National Lottery funding in Wales

National Lottery Awards for All Wales offers £300 to £20,000 for projects lasting up to two years that bring people together and improve communities. Larger and longer projects can look at the other National Lottery Community Fund programmes for Wales.

Applying in Welsh

Public funders in Wales accept applications in Welsh as well as English, and so does The National Lottery Community Fund in Wales. If your group works mainly in Welsh, say so in your application: some funders give particular weight to projects that support the language and Welsh-speaking communities.

The Yapp Charitable Trust Grants

The Yapp Charitable Trust

Up to £9,000England, Wales

The Yapp Charitable Trust gives grants to charities. This page explains how to apply, and it is the place to start if you think your charity might fit. The Trust only funds charities that meet its eligibility criteria. It asks you to read its guidelines fully before you think about applying. Pre-application enquiries are welcome, so you can talk through your plans before you put anything in writing. Applications are made through an online portal called the Yapp Hub. If you are new, you register first. If you have already registered, you log in to start a new application or to pick up one you have already begun. You will need to give detail about the charity, its activities, its finances and the grant request. The Trust provides a summary list of the questions it asks, which helps you plan your answers before you start. Trustees meet three times a year to consider applications. The practical caveat is timing. A decision can take up to 5 months from the date you submit, so plan your project and your cash flow with that wait in mind. If you have questions about eligibility, or you need help with the online process, contact Joanne Anderson, Trust Secretary, on 0191 3893300. Severn Trent Community Fund

Severn Trent Water

Funding amount not listedEngland, Wales

The Severn Trent Community Fund is Severn Trent Water's way of backing local charities and community groups. The company has committed over £20 million across the ten years from 2020. If you are helping to make a real and tangible difference in the communities where Severn Trent lives and works, the funder says it wants to hear from you. The fund suits charities and community groups doing practical good locally. The page does not list the costs it pays for, so the best guide is the work it has already supported. Past awards are shown through annual reviews, an interactive map and posts tagged #STCommunityFund on social media. Decisions are not made behind closed doors. An independent Community Fund Customer Panel reviews applications, so ultimately it is customers who decide where the money goes. That makes it worth knowing what the Panel has backed before. The reviews look back at the causes supported over the last five years. They give you a good idea of the types of applications likely to be successful with the Customer Panel. The interactive map lets you search by postcode, zoom in to your area or go full screen. Each pin marks an award, and you can click one to see how the fund is helping communities near you. One practical point: the page is mainly a showcase of the fund and the awards it has made. Read a few of the funded stories before you start, so you can see how other groups have described their work. Official source: https://www.stwater.co.uk/about-us/severn-trent-community-fund/. Free Trees for Schools and Communities

Woodland Trust

Funding amount not listedEngland, Scotland, Wales

The Woodland Trust is giving away free tree packs to schools, councils, clubs and community groups in England, Scotland and Wales. You receive saplings rather than money, so this suits you if you have land to plant and the time to look after young trees. There are eight pack types, with species mixes for hedges, copses, fruit and nuts, wildlife, urban streets and more. Packs hold 15, 30, 105 or 420 saplings. You can request up to four packs, as long as the total does not go over 420 trees. Each tree is 20-60cm tall and grown in the UK and Ireland. Applications are open now for trees delivered in March 2027. The Trust expects applications to close in January. It makes two deliveries a year, in March and November, and says it will tell you within eight weeks whether you have been successful. Before you apply, you will need the six digit grid reference for your planting site and permission from the legal landowner. The Trust also suggests reading its FAQs and contacting your local council's tree enquiries team. One thing to plan for: the packs do not include tree protection. You will also need to prepare the site and care for your saplings until they are established. Each pack comes with planting instructions and care tips. If your group is in Northern Ireland, a separate scheme applies. Official source: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/plant-trees/schools-and-communities/. Commissioned Rehabilitative Services General Grant Scheme

Ministry of Justice

£8,000 - £450,000England, Wales

The Commissioned Rehabilitative Services General Grant Scheme is run by the Ministry of Justice. It helps Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service protect the public and reduce reoffending. The grants pay for support for people with shared protected characteristics or shared experiences, and for work that promotes rehabilitation and desistance. The scheme has three aims. It wants to improve people's engagement in, and experience of, probation and other rehabilitative activities. It wants to support an individual's rehabilitation and desistance journey. It also wants to improve the service's knowledge of which activities work. England and Wales are divided into 12 probation regions. Each region has a yearly budget to commission rehabilitative services. The scheme lets the service award multiple competed general grants across these regions. It suits non-profit making organisations that want to support people on their rehabilitation journey. You do not apply straight away. First you register your interest on the Probation Grants Applications Portal. You will give basic contact details, the legal structure of your organisation, and declare any organisational convictions or offences. The page lists a closing date of 29 March 2027 at 5:00pm. The first competed process covered several probation regions and focused on people from ethnic minority groups. Any changes to dates are communicated through the grants portal, so keep an eye on it once you have registered. The page also links to guidance on probation services grants and a step-by-step guide to registering. Community Hub Bursaries

The National Archives

£10 - £1,000England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, North East England, North West England, South East England, South West England

The Community Hub Bursaries give you up to £1,000 to grow your skills in community heritage work. The scheme is led by The National Archives as part of the Spaces, Places and Belonging Community Hub, with Leeds Museums & Galleries, the National Library of Wales and the Community Archives & Heritage Group. You decide how to use the money. Eligible costs could include course or workshop fees (in-person or online), travel and accommodation linked to training, mentoring or coaching, conferences or sector events, learning materials such as books and toolkits, and shadowing or placements in galleries, libraries, archives and museums. The bursaries suit individuals at any stage of their career or background, including independent practitioners with no organisation behind them. The funder especially wants to reach people who may not have had access to this kind of development before. You need to be involved in some way in the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) or heritage sector, live in the UK and be at least 18. Applications are taken on a rolling basis and assessed quarterly by a panel. The page lists a closing date of 3 July 2027. It also says bursaries are offered on a rolling basis from September 2025 to March 2027. You apply through an online form. One practical point to plan for: you can only receive one Community Hub Bursary. Previously unsuccessful applicants can apply again with the agreement of the Community Hub team. Youth Jobs Grant

Department for Work and Pensions

£3,000England, Wales, Scotland, North East England, North West England, South East England, South West England

The Youth Jobs Grant helps employers in Great Britain recruit young people who may otherwise find it hard to enter the labour market. It is part of the Youth Guarantee and is run by the Department for Work and Pensions. It is meant to add to your existing recruitment activity, not replace it. You can receive £3,000 for each qualifying job outcome. The money is paid in stages. You get £1,800 from 6 weeks and £1,200 after 18 weeks, once earnings have been verified through HM Revenue and Customs Real Time Information. The young person you hire must be aged 18 to 24, on Universal Credit and out of work for at least 6 months. The job must be registered with the scheme. The page says the scheme is expected to be open to employers of all sizes and sectors. To take part, you must operate in Great Britain, be registered with HMRC, be actively trading with at least six months of trading history, and pass due diligence checks. A central team at the Department for Work and Pensions assesses applications before your participation is confirmed. The scheme opened on 30 June 2026 and closes to new participants on 31 October 2028 at 11:59pm. It aims to support up to 60,000 job opportunities over three years. One practical point: no payment is made until all relevant checks are complete. The government also reserves the right to end or change the scheme. If that happens, it aims to give 4 weeks' notice and will honour claims made before any public announcement. Official source: https://find-government-grants.service.gov.uk/grants/youth-jobs-grant-2. Arnold Clark Cost-of-Living Support Fund

Arnold Clark Community Fund

Up to £2,500Scotland, Wales, England

The Arnold Clark Cost-of-Living Support Fund backs projects that help people in your community who are struggling with the rising cost of living. It is run by the Arnold Clark Community Fund. It suits food banks, toy banks, accommodation providers, poverty relief services and other organisations supporting the people most affected by the cost-of-living crisis. The funder especially encourages smaller voluntary and community groups. UK-registered charities, local community groups, social enterprises, community interest companies and charitable incorporated organisations can all apply. You must be based in, or operate solely within, the UK, and be within 50 miles of an Arnold Clark branch. The page does not give a grant amount or a closing date. It does show an Apply now button. Applications go through Grants Connect, run by a third-party partner. A representative of your charity or community group should apply on behalf of the organisation. You will hear the outcome by email within four weeks. If you are successful, the money is paid by BACS to your organisation's business bank account. Allow 14 business days after the success email for the payment to arrive. Here is one practical caveat. If you receive funding in this campaign, you cannot get more funding until next year. The fund also aims to spread money fairly across all areas, so if many organisations in your region have already been funded, that may affect your result. The fund cannot pay for wages, loan repayments or debt repayments. Official source: https://www.arnoldclark.com/community-fund/cost-of-living. Last checked by GrantMatch on 16 October 2026.

A Place for Sport Crowdfunder

Sport Wales

Up to £15,000Wales

A Place for Sport Crowdfunder from Sport Wales gives match funding to not-for-profit sports clubs and community groups that raise money for their facilities through Crowdfunder. It can help with internal or external facilities and modernisation works. Examples include fixing or upgrading changing rooms, toilets or showers, renovating a clubhouse, improving kitchen or bar areas, adding bike racks or storage, making your space more accessible with ramps or lifts, fixing fences or adding stands and seating, and buying scoreboards, video equipment or pitch maintenance tools. If you meet the conditions, Sport Wales will give you 50% of your total, up to £15,000. This can rise to 60% if your project targets under-represented groups or is in a high-deprivation area, based on the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. Sport Wales has a crowdfunder calculator that shows what you need to raise, how many people need to donate and how much you could receive. To unlock the contribution, you must raise at least 25% of your total target, get donations from a minimum number of supporters (this number varies with your target) and reach your target by a set deadline. Your project must also benefit people living in Wales and involve the local community in its development and delivery. Applications are open all year round. You will need to create an account on the Sport Wales grants and funding portal and submit an expression of interest form. Sport Wales says it will reply within 2 working days with next steps. One practical point: your project needs its own fundraising page on Crowdfunder, so the fundraising starts with you. You only receive the Sport Wales contribution if you hit the goals above. Social Investment Gateway Programme

School for Social Entrepreneurs

Up to £24,000National (UK-wide)

The Social Investment Gateway Programme is a free 12-month support programme run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE). It helps charities, social enterprises and community organisations strengthen their trading and move closer to being ready for social investment within the next three years. The programme will support 75 leaders across four cohorts. Cohort 2 runs from 1 March 2027 to 1 February 2028, and applications are now open. Face-to-face sessions take place in London and Manchester at the start, middle and end of the programme. You can choose between two types of grant. A Match Trading Grant of up to £18,000 is designed to challenge your trading, and you can only draw it down as your trading grows. It is paid over 12 months in five instalments. A repayable grant of up to £24,000 is also available, with an average of around £22,000. SSE is piloting repayable grants, and 10 are on offer across both rounds. SSE will share the risk with you and wants to learn with you how repayable grants might help organisations get into social investment. The programme suits organisations that have a trading model and plans to grow over the next year. You might want support with market development, pricing and sales, financial strategy, systems, governance, demonstrating impact or managing risk. The deadline is noon on Friday 6 November 2026. One practical point: you should usually have an annual income above £100,000, counting all income and not just trading income. Groups below that level with a strong trading model are encouraged to contact SSE. Official source: https://www.actiontogether.org.uk/social-investment-gateway-programme. Questions

What grants are available for charities in Wales?

Today GrantMatch lists 32 live grants tagged to Wales that are open to charities, CICs or community groups, from 24 funders. UK-wide grants that Welsh groups can apply for are listed further down the page.

How much can we get from National Lottery Awards for All Wales?

Between £300 and £20,000, for projects lasting up to two years. Check the programme page on The National Lottery Community Fund website for current priorities and how to apply.

Can a CIC apply for grants in Wales?

Yes. Many funders in Wales accept CICs, including several Arts Council of Wales and community programmes. Trusts that only fund registered charities will not, so check who can apply first.

Do we need to be a registered charity?

Not always. In Wales and England a charity only has to register once its income is over £5,000, or if it is a CIO, and many community grants accept constituted groups with a bank account.

How do you check these grants?

We collect grants from official funder pages, GOV.UK, councils and community foundations, and remove them when they close. Each grant page links to its source and shows when we last checked it. Always confirm the details with the funder before you apply.
