Overview
This EPSRC opportunity pays for high-performance compute hardware that serves engineering and physical sciences research communities. You can ask for money to buy a new system or to add to an existing one. Your proposal must deliver against at least one of two aims. The first is CPU resource that meets a clear, identified need of a user community within EPSRC's remit. The second is GPU resource that helps the community make full use of GPU architectures for world-leading research. The total fund is £26,250,000. The budget is £20 million of capital for compute hardware, funded at 100% of full economic cost and spent in the 2026 to 2027 financial year. A further £5 million of resource funding is available over four years, funded at 80% of full economic cost. EPSRC expects to make multiple awards. The value of each award is not fixed, so you should request a budget that fits your plans. Resource funding can cover staff who run the compute and support users, power, data storage, conference and workshop costs, and small items of equipment under £25,000. It will not cover the costs of running specific projects on the resource. Awards can run for up to four years and start on 31 January 2027. Hardware spend must be completed by 31 March 2027. You must be based at a UK research organisation that is eligible for EPSRC funding. Before applying, you must contact and meet the EPSRC Research Infrastructure team to discuss your procurement and Trusted Research and Innovation plans. You had to arrange this meeting by 29 September 2026. Applications without it will not be considered. Only the lead research organisation can submit. Uninvited resubmissions of projects already sent to UKRI or another funder are not accepted. Project co-leads based in Norway cannot be included.
