Full details from Shetland Community Benefit Fund (Viking Community Fund)

Most of the Viking Community Fund's money goes to its Strategic Fund, run by Shetland Community Benefit Fund (SCBF) as a project funder for one-off initiatives and projects delivered over several years. Grants are for over £10,000 and must be for community-focused activities that sustain and develop Shetland's communities and meet one or more of the business plan priorities: more younger people wanting to stay in or come back to Shetland, better transport links within and between communities, better broadband and mobile connections, a lower cost of living, better housing supply and affordability, and protecting Shetland's natural environment. Applicants are encouraged to bring in other funding, especially for larger projects, and must contact SCBF first for requests above £50,000. One application is allowed each year, which can be for a multi-year project. The fund opens four times a year: the current round closes on 31 October 2026, and the next deadlines are 31 January, 30 April and 31 July 2027.

How to apply

Create an account on the Shetland Community Benefit Fund website ('Apply online') and complete the online application, uploading the documents listed in the guidelines. For help, email admin@scbf.org.uk. Read the Strategic Fund guidelines and FAQs first. Contact SCBF before applying for more than £50,000. Deadlines are 31 October (panel mid-December), 31 January, 30 April and 31 July.
