Cumbria Community Foundation
The Nuclear Waste Services LLWR Grassroots Fund is run by Cumbria Community Foundation. The money comes from LLW Repository Limited, which trades as Nuclear Waste Services. It gives grants to organisations for initiatives that reduce poverty, improve health, tackle social inequality and help people reach their potential. It also backs projects that nurture a sense of place or promote climate action. Priority will be given to groups that support children and young people. If your project helps them, make that clear in your application. Grants will normally be up to £5,000 over one year, so plan your project and its costs to fit that. The page gives some examples of what the fund has supported. These include scenery hire for a musical in a local theatre, astro-turf rebound boards for a community sports ground, activities to help young people learn about setting up their own companies, and coaching costs for members of a junior cricket club. The fund is open to charitable, not-for-profit organisations. It will not support individuals. The foundation also applies its normal exclusions, so read these before you start. All applications are now made through the foundation's online application portal. There is a step-by-step portal help guide to walk you through it. If you have questions about the fund, you can contact Annalee Holliday, Head of Grants Practice and Programmes, at the foundation.
