Some funds accept any CIC, some only CICs limited by guarantee. The grant page and the funder guidance always have the final word.

Arts Council of Wales

Check each programme, because amounts, deadlines and who can apply vary, and some programmes need you to talk to an officer before you apply.

Energy and environment
Energy funds, such as the Energy Redress Scheme and Great British Energy, and community benefit funds from energy projects in Wales often accept CICs, especially for community energy and projects that help people with their bills. Community benefit funds usually name the communities they serve, so check that your project is inside the area.

Your asset lock helps
Every CIC has an asset lock, which means its assets must be used for its community purpose. Mention it in your application, with your community interest statement, because it shows a funder that the grant cannot end up as private profit.

Trading and grants together
Many Welsh CICs earn income from trading as well as grants. Funders like to see both, so show what you earn, what the grant would pay for that trading cannot, and how the work will carry on afterwards.

Social Investment Gateway Programme
School for Social Entrepreneurs
The Social Investment Gateway Programme is a free 12-month support programme run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE). It helps charities, social enterprises and community organisations strengthen their trading and move closer to being ready for social investment within the next three years. The programme will support 75 leaders across four cohorts. Cohort 2 runs from 1 March 2027 to 1 February 2028, and applications are now open. Face-to-face sessions take place in London and Manchester at the start, middle and end of the programme. You can choose between two types of grant. A Match Trading Grant of up to £18,000 is designed to challenge your trading, and you can only draw it down as your trading grows. It is paid over 12 months in five instalments. A repayable grant of up to £24,000 is also available, with an average of around £22,000. SSE is piloting repayable grants, and 10 are on offer across both rounds. SSE will share the risk with you and wants to learn with you how repayable grants might help organisations get into social investment. The programme suits organisations that have a trading model and plans to grow over the next year. You might want support with market development, pricing and sales, financial strategy, systems, governance, demonstrating impact or managing risk. The deadline is noon on Friday 6 November 2026. One practical point: you should usually have an annual income above £100,000, counting all income and not just trading income. Groups below that level with a strong trading model are encouraged to contact SSE. Official source: https://www.actiontogether.org.uk/social-investment-gateway-programme. Register interest and apply on the SSE website by 12pm on 16 November 2026. Official source: https://www.the-sse.org/programme/the-dps-social-commitment-programme-scale/. Music Growth Fund
Arts Council England
The Music Growth Fund gives music businesses and organisations across the UK between £1,000 and £100,000 to grow, through two strands with different deadlines. For £1,000 to £40,000, the current round closes at 11.59pm on 26 November 2026, and you need at least 25% of the budget as cash match funding. Applications that miss it go into the next round, closing 7 January 2027. For £40,001 to £100,000, the next round opens on 23 November 2026 and closes at 11.59pm on 15 January 2027. You need at least 50% cash match funding and a completed finance template. Festivals, promoters, managers, labels, studios, rehearsal spaces, publishers, grassroots venues and sector support organisations can apply. You need an approved profile on the Arts Council grants system first. Official source: https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/music-growth-package/music-growth-fund-general-guidance. International Tree Foundation - UK Community Tree Planting Programme
International Tree Foundation
The International Tree Foundation's UK Community Tree Planting Programme pays for community projects that plant and care for native trees. It suits community groups and voluntary organisations that want to involve local people in planting woodlands or hedging. The programme aims to conserve, restore and protect native trees, woodlands, forests, habitats and the wildlife that depend on them. It also backs projects that get communities involved in planting, help people understand why trees matter for the environment and for human well-being, and encourage social cohesion and inclusion. Funding is based on the number of trees you plant. Community woodland and hedging projects can plant from 100 to 10,000 trees per year. The maximum price is equivalent to £2.15 per tree, and that includes tree protection and mulch. Projects also receive two maintenance grants, each equivalent to £0.10 per tree. These are paid in the first and second summers after planting. Schools, community groups, social enterprises, non-governmental organisations and parish councils can apply. You need to be based in the UK and have a bank account in the organisation's name. The deadline is 11 December 2026. One practical point to plan for: you must have signed permission from the owner or manager of the land, confirming that the project meets all legal requirements. It is worth sorting this out early, as it depends on someone else. Guidance notes and an online application portal are on the International Tree Foundation's website. You can also email the team at programmes@internationaltreefoundation.org. Official source: https://www.actiontogether.org.uk/international-tree-foundation-uk-community-tree-planting-programme-4. Questions
What grants can a CIC get in Wales?
Today GrantMatch lists 25 live grants tagged to Wales that are open to CICs, from 19 funders. 6 close in the next 30 days.
Can a CIC apply to the Arts Council of Wales?
For several of its programmes, yes. Each programme sets out which kinds of organisation can apply, so check the programme page before you start.
Can we apply in Welsh?
Many Welsh funders, including public bodies, accept applications in Welsh or English and treat them equally. The funder guidance will say how to apply in Welsh.
Do funders prefer a CIC limited by guarantee?
Often, yes, because a CIC limited by guarantee has no shareholders. Others accept CICs limited by shares. The funder guidance says which it accepts.
How do you check these grants?
We collect grants from official funder pages, GOV.UK, councils and community foundations, and remove them when they close. Each grant page links to its source and shows when we last checked it. Always confirm the details with the funder before you apply.
