Northern Ireland has its own funders, its own charity regulator and 11 local councils, so much of the community funding here is separate from the rest of the UK. Money comes from Community Foundation Northern Ireland, the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland, the councils, housing associations, government departments and a large number of wind farm community benefit funds.

This page lists live grants for charities, CICs and community groups in Northern Ireland. Many wind farm funds open for short rounds, so the list changes quickly. UK-wide community grants are listed underneath.

Travel Award for Bands

Arts Council of Northern Ireland

£500 - £5,000Northern Ireland

The Travel Award for Bands and Choirs from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland helps established bands and choirs based in Northern Ireland to travel outside Northern Ireland to perform. The aim is to develop your performance skills, networks and audiences by showcasing your music elsewhere. It also supports fairer access to the arts for groups in the bands and choral sectors. The award pays for travel costs, including flight, boat, train and bus tickets, vehicle hire and fuel. It does not cover accommodation, subsistence, insurance, travel within Northern Ireland, or travel unrelated to performances or showcasing. You must show evidence that a relevant organisation, event, festival, promoter or tour operator in your destination has invited you to perform or showcase. Priority goes to applications that show high quality musicianship, a commitment to training and musical education (particularly of young people), and a commitment to developing your repertoire and technique. Bands must be formally constituted. Accordion, brass, concert, flute, pipe and wind bands can apply. Choirs need at least 10 members and must have been formally constituted for at least two years. Professional, amateur and school choirs are included. Individuals cannot apply. Timing matters. Do not book your travel before you submit your application, because if any part is already booked, none of that trip is eligible. You must apply at least four weeks before you plan to leave. The Arts Council only contributes to travel costs paid directly by the band or choir from its own bank account, not costs paid by individual members. The Arts Council is moving to a new application portal, so you may need to create a new account the first time you apply. Dormant Assets for All

National Lottery Community Fund

£300 - £20,000Northern Ireland

Dormant Assets for All is a funding programme from The National Lottery Community Fund. It helps voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in Northern Ireland become stronger, more resilient and better prepared for future challenges. You can apply for between £300 and £20,000 for a project lasting up to 2 years. The money must go on strengthening your own organisation. That might mean improving confidence and skills in digital technology, tracking and measuring your impact, financial management, governance and leadership, or volunteer recruitment and management. The programme is open to applications now. The page does not give a closing date. The Community Fund says it aims to make a decision in 12 weeks. The funding comes from the Dormant Assets Scheme, which uses money from financial accounts that have not been used in over 15 years. It does not come from The National Lottery. If you are successful, you must use the Dormant Assets NI logo on your website, social media and any printed materials. One important caveat. The fund will not pay for delivering activities in your community. For example, it cannot fund expanding an existing service into new areas. Only work that makes your organisation itself stronger will be funded. Check your base before you start. Only organisations with a registered office in Northern Ireland are eligible. The funder also offers a short video that explains the programme criteria and the application process, which is worth watching first. National Lottery Arts and Older People Programme

Arts Council of Northern Ireland

£1,000 - £10,000Northern Ireland

The National Lottery Arts and Older People Programme from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland supports projects that strengthen the voice of older people. It also aims to promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing by encouraging more older people to take part in the arts. Grants of £1,000 to £10,000 are available. The programme suits constituted community and voluntary groups working locally to support older people, as long as they can show strong partnership working with older people's groups. Non-governmental organisations, local authorities and arts organisations can also apply if they can clearly show partnership working. The funder wants partnership or consortia-based projects. A partnership can be led by an age sector provider, an arts organisation or a local authority. The consortium must include appropriate representatives and show a real commitment to working together. Other specialists who work with older people can be named as partners. Your project should reflect the partnership approach with the older people you plan to engage, and it should have their support in delivery. Funded projects will have a chance to showcase their work throughout the year, so build this into your programme and budget. Individuals, sole traders, broadcasters (apart from community service broadcasters), central government departments and organisations with statutory duties to provide services for older people cannot apply. You also cannot apply if you hold an unfinished Arts and Older People award from 2024/25 or earlier. Applications are online only. The system shuts at 12 noon on the closing date, so leave plenty of time to upload your documents. That is close, so it is worth checking your project against the priorities and the location rules now. If you have already started an application, the Foundation asks you to carry on using the link emailed to you when you registered. One practical point: your location matters. The Social Investment Gateway Programme is a free 12-month support programme run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE). It helps charities, social enterprises and community organisations strengthen their trading and move closer to being ready for social investment within the next three years. The programme will support 75 leaders across four cohorts. Cohort 2 runs from 1 March 2027 to 1 February 2028, and applications are now open. Face-to-face sessions take place in London and Manchester at the start, middle and end of the programme. You can choose between two types of grant. A repayable grant of up to £24,000 is also available, with an average of around £22,000. SSE is piloting repayable grants, and 10 are on offer across both rounds. SSE will share the risk with you and wants to learn with you how repayable grants might help organisations get into social investment.
